VMware virtual appliance for video editing

Over the weekend, I created a VMware Partner Account and got my Fedora 10, x86-64 virtual machine approved to be listed on VMware's Virtual Appliance listings:
http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/148183

If you want to try out Cinelerra and you use 64-bit VMware Player, Workstation or Server, this is an easy way to get started. I'd appreciate someone giving it a shot and letting me know how it works.

  1. Hi ,

I downloaded your VM, but I cant make it start. I have Ubuntu 9.04 x64 and VMware server 2, and when I try to add your VM, the VMware server crashes. Is there anything special I need to do before I add it ?

  2. Hi Crazed Mule,

I dont know if that was the idea from the begining, but I created a new VM machine and used the disk from the folder, and its working.

  3. Lidra,
No, the VM is fully usable with all dependent packages and media players installed.

I verfied that the VM is good. I did this by downloading and uncompressing the file with the following commands:
    1) gunzip Fedora10_x86_64.tar.gz
    2) tar xvf Fedora10_x86_64.tar
    3) I then loaded it into VMware Fusion v2.0 for the Mac (64-bit). It first asked me if I moved or copied the VM. I selected "copied" and then it loaded fine into Fusion
    4) use "crazedmule" as the password

    Good luck!

  4. The issue was probably the VMware server version I have. No worries, I created a new VM machine, and pointed the storage of the new machine to the VMDK file from the archive. Its working now. Thank you for your time to put this together.

    Cheers,

  5. Hi
I am running the VM on X86-32 bit XP Pro SP3 w/ VMWare player. VM seems to be running fine except that during startup i saw a message - local filesystem mount failed. Do you see any issues with my setup?
    thanks

  6. Since the VM was built for a 64-bit system, I'm surprised the VM starts up and works in your 32-bit VMware Player install. Though, I've never tried it myself with your setup.

You might want to ask the VMware Community forum at http://communities.vmware.com/
